I have had my hands so full since you left that the intended letters have had to go by the board. We think about and miss you more than we like to say in view of the fact that we hope to have you back. My having been in bad shape for such a long time has piled up the work so that even the gardening has been unable to tempt me.
The first thing after you left was to pack up all of your things and lock them up in the drug room so that <persName>Miss Straeffer</persName> could move in. She is using your dresser and a few other things until her return to <placeName ref="#MOK">Mokpo</placeName>. Then I spend the end of my convalescing days working on your desk which is now in such good shape that no one would ever notice that it had been smashed. I had some fear as to the working of the sliding top but finally got it into beautiful working order. It is such a luxury to use such a desk that I fear my old one will seem rather like the transfer from a Pullman to a Korean pony.
As soon as I felt it safe to be out I started on a tour of the outstations. I had hoped to have you on this trip, and often wished for you while it was in progress. <persName>Mr. Bull</persName> went along and assisted in the examinations of catechumen for the first time. At <placeName>Manchsan</placeName> eleven we examined of whom three were received into the church and eight requested to wait as catechumens. At <placeName>Songidong</placeName> twelve at <placeName>Sengmal</placeName> fourteen at <placeName>Namchamun</placeName>, twenty-seven — at the station twelve — seventy-six in all, of whom thirty five were admitted to the church and forty five made to wait longer as probationary members.
At Sengmal the fourteen new recruits are the fruit of the personal work of one of our members who moved to that field during my furlough in <placeName>America</placeName>. The little seven years old daughter of the leader at this place is a wonder. When I asked her if she could recite any Scripture, she began at Matthew and gave a bible recital of seventy-six verses ending up with the apostle’s creed and the ten commandments. If we asked her for a chapter and verse or to give contents it seemed equally easy.
We are now in the midst of a very busy time with a theological class of sixty here from the three stations! <persName>Mr. Tate</persName>, <persName>Mr. Bell</persName> and Mr. Bull are taking part: Tate has Romans and O.T. History; Bell, Corinthians and Life of Christ, Bull, geography and I, Acts, Church History and Theology with a singing class at night. There have been two conferences at which the brethren have discussed the questions “How can we Chelloa Do Christians best spread the good news over the field for which God has made us responsible?” and “How can we best raise the funds to support the work.”
I feel sure you would have enjoyed this discussion . It was exceedingly gratifying to see what progress these Christians of five and six years standing have made both in knowledge of the Word and in ability to express themselves.

            <p>

한국 군산 1903년 3월 26일 A.J.A.

There have been two conferences at which the brethren have discussed the questions “How can we Chelloa Do Christians best spread the good news over the field for which God has made us responsible?” and “How can we best raise the funds to support the work.” I feel sure you would have enjoyed this discussion . It was exceedingly gratifying to see what progress these Christians of five and six years standing have made both in knowledge of the Word and in ability to express themselves. Miss Doty is down for a little visit, and with Miss Straeffer and the Bulls we had a regular congregation at church last Sabbath. Miss Mammy was over some time ago and tried your type-writer. I send her first effort. I must get work now on “The Diet of Worms”, rather a queer diet for Koreans to be taking, but they seem intensely interested and I have to study hard to keep posted sufficiently to answer their many unexpected questions. They have asked most of the professors? questions that had to be answered next day as there was not sufficient time to answer at the moment the question was propounded!

With most cordial greeting from all the Junkins, Yours sincerely, W. M. Junkin
한국 군산 1903년 3월 26일 A.J.A.
