Dear Mr. Chapman

Many thanks for the Alice Learmonts – & I shall say that they must not be sold under price – 5/0 – I fancy they will sell very well – as Greenock is a “reading” place – the bazaar is, I think I said – patronized & concocted by the wife of Sir Michael Shaw Stewart Shaw-Stewart , who was Lady Octavia Leveson Gower Grosvenor – I couldn’t conscientiously take the 6 more Alices – thank you! – at least “out & out.” – But I would gladly send them as “from the publisher – ” to be sold at 5/0 or as much more as may be – & 2/6 out of each sold to be returned as well as any unsold copies – to said publisher –

What say you to that bargain? And will you answer at once – that I may make up my packet & send it off – “Avillion” is all right – I believe the subscription cleared off 400 copies before publication-day.

– Business done – which must be done, run the world as it will – let me say how sorry I am to hear you have not been well – & in family trouble – I well remember that kind little old Quaker whom I saw at Clareville

Give my love to your wife & babies – whom I would come out to see – but all going about either on foot or omnibuses, except a little stroll – is quite impossible to me now – & for a long time. However Novel N o Number 5 vol volume 1 – is nearly written – which is well

Yours always sincerely Dinah Mulock
